Jean Huang, a St. Cloud Ethnic Chinese Student, Got Perfect Scores on Both SAT and ACT

'Ho-hum, another one,' ACT-acing student says

St. Cloud student Jean Huang continues to compile an impressive academic record.
The Technical High School senior learned this month that she achieved a perfect score on her ACT test. She adds that to the perfect SAT score she notched in the spring and several state and national chemistry and math awards she earned during the past year.

She was one of five students in Minnesota and 82 in the nation to get the coveted 36 on the ACT college-entrance exam. On her SAT, she was the only Minnesotan and one of 107 students in the country to get a perfect score of 2,400.

Why did she take the ACT test when she already had a perfect score on the SAT?
"I guess it was kind of my goal to see if I got lucky and got another perfect score," Huang said.
Given her track record, it doesn't seem like luck. But she was too busy early this summer to spend too much time preparing, she said. She took the practice test in the ACT catalog, and that was about it for preparation.

"I kind of tried to get a perfect score, but if I didn't that's OK," she said.
The ACT is a college-entrance exam that consists of tests in English, math, reading and science. Minnesota had the highest average ACT score in the nation with 22.3. Nationwide, the average was 20.9.

About 68 percent — almost 42,000 — of Minnesota's 2005 graduates took the test.

"It's huge. It's really huge," said Bernice Berns, the associate superintendent for St. Cloud school district who covers teaching and learning. "That is truly an outstanding accomplishment. We are very proud of her."

Huang shrugs off the ACT achievement.

"The SAT was really big for me. It didn't matter that much. I just wanted to see if I could get a perfect score," Huang said.

In May, Huang was one of 14 Minnesota students to qualify to take a national examination that leads to selection on the U.S. team for the international chemistry Olympiad.
In March, she earned a third-place finish at the Minnesota State High School Mathematics League.

Huang said she is leaning toward going to college in California. She has her eyes on Stanford and the University of California-Berkeley. She plans to visit them on a break during school.
She has already visited the University of Minnesota and Carleton College.

他是个细致孝顺的儿子，他是个体贴负责的丈夫，他是个耐心慈祥的父亲，他是个刚正不阿的朋友，他是个宽厚克己的同事，他是个沉思严谨的学者，总而言之，他是一个有道德，有修养，有知识，有文化，正直公正的好人。

与他交往的人都知道，他的精神境界是很高尚的。他的才智未必是第一流，但有很好的洞察力和亲和力；他的想象力不能算是丰富，但他能听取各种各样的意见，沥取各式各类的经验，其结论是可靠、稳妥、扎实；他的谈吐不能说是很潇洒，但总是让人感到亲切，有吸引力和感召力，即使那些他不在行的问题，听听他的意见也有启发和收益。

大变已至，亲人难免不知所措，而陷入危机窘境。但信念、理想、自强、力量总是会战胜悲痛，彷徨，沮丧和消沉。这也是他离开后对亲人的期望。

让我们大家悼念他，祝福他。我们恳请苍天热情地接纳和款待这位远方来的客人，以告慰他的亲人、朋友及同事。

明州华人杨全明教授一家发生重大车祸杨教授及70岁老母亲去世，妻子儿子受伤事故简介2005年7月23日，杨全明一家乘车在Waseca 到双城之间的路上，因车方向失控，在I-35高速上同逆向的卡车相撞，造成重大生命伤亡交通事故，年仅48岁的杨全明教授当场死亡，70岁老母重伤，妻子儿子也受到不同程度的伤害。杨全明先生简介杨全明先生系山东泰安人，生前为山东农业大学教授，1999年获得中国农业大学博士，2000年以博士后的身份来到明大位于双城西南地区Waseca的明大科技推广中心从事动物饲料研究。2001年被明大正式聘为研究员，在动物饲料和农业科技推广方面做出了突出贡献。

目前状况杨全明先生去世后，老母亲一直在North Memorial,接受特别护理治疗，目前情况危急，生命垂危（注：杨母已于8月16日过世）。妻子儿子虽已出院，但妻子儿子以及在读大学的女儿均无固定收入来源。一家人遭此重大变故，无论精神和财务状况均处于崩溃边缘。

为此，我们紧急呼吁我们身边的海外同胞一家遭受如此重大不幸，每一个有正义感的华人朋友都应该挺身而出施以援手，帮助他们一家渡过这异常艰难的时刻。我们呼吁：凡是有工作的华人捐出$10元,有两人工作的家庭捐出$20元，多者不限。几十元钱对一个人，一个家庭不算什麽，但积少成多，您的每一元钱都可以告慰杨教授的在天之灵，您的每一元钱都是对杨教授一家莫大的精神安慰和财力支持。请将捐款支票寄往[华兴双周报]，[华兴双周报]将捐款登记注册后，一并交给杨教授的家属。
